Delegates represent the voice of their community. As an At-Large Delegate, McKay listens to the issues and ideas of Marylanders. With her expertise in policy development, legislation, and advocacy, McKay is committed to serving the community effectively. At the 2024 Democratic National Convention, McKay will join Maryland delegates and others from across the country to officially nominate Kamala Harris for President of the United States and shape the direction of the party’s agenda.

Over the last 15 years, Januari McKay has served the people of Maryland across health, education, and child welfare. A results-driven community leader, her mission is to improve the quality of life for our most vulnerable populations through education, advocacy, and ensuring government works for everyday people, not just the most wealthy and well-connected. Successful at building coalitions, mobilizing, and influencing policy, she works tirelessly to be a voice for the residents of Maryland. McKay currently serves as a Chief of Staff within the Maryland General Assembly. McKay completed EMERGE MD 2023 cohort, a training program for women politicians, and now serves as a 2024 DNC delegate for the state of Maryland. She lives in Prince George’s County where she serves as a caretaker for her grandmother.
Started her political career at North Carolina Central University where she mobilized a 90% voter turnout during the 2008 Presidential election creating a university record.
Has notably influenced federal policy by coordinating youth development models and establishing creative partnerships with state leaders, associations, nonprofits, and advocacy groups, successfully securing $50,000 in grants for youth programming.
